Ladder Fuel Reduction
Minimizing the most volotile brush in the right areas can significantly reduce the risk of a fire spreading through brush and up to trees. Our hands on approach ensures minimal area disturbance and giving the landscape a true reduction in fire prone vegetation. Our standards follow state and local guidelines.
Reduction Process
Tree Work
The trees lower canopies are lifted to a height of 6 feet for trees over 20ft tall. For trees under 20 feet, we lift the lower crown to 2/3 of the live canopy.
All deadwood is removed up to at least 10 feet.
Brush Removal
Bitterbrush, manzanita, rabbitbrush, currant and sagebrush are removed under the canopies of trees.
The brush is thinned in open areas to provide adequate spacing between shrubs, around 6ft. Smaller shrubs with no deadwood are favored to preserve.
All non-fire resistant shrubs within 5 feet of structures should be removed.
Tree Reduction
Depending on project you can elect to have certain size trees removed, usually saplings under 4" in diameter at breast height (DBH, about 4.5 feet from the ground).
Trees are selected to be removed based on their location and size. Saplings in clusters can be thinned to provide more space, and small trees growing into the canopies of larger trees should be removed.
